Far worse than the physical pain of the Roman cross was the spiritual agony, as the sinless Son of God took on His head all the guilt of the entire human race on that cross.
At the point He said, “It is finished,” He was really saying God’s plan for our salvation is complete! Everyone’s guilt from the creation until the rapture converged on His willing and defenseless head.
Those who lived before the time of Christ looked forward to the cross by following the Law of Moses and offering animals on the altar of God.
Those who live after the time of Christ, accept His sacrificial death on the cross.
When we take communion with the bread and wine as symbols of His broken body and shed blood, we are saying, “Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross for my sins so I won’t have to die for those sins.”
The best part of this story is, on the third day, He Lives!
